WHAT HAPPENED:
Annaliese Michel died on July 1, 1976, and on this day, her parents and the two exorcist who performed the rite of exorcism on her were charged with negligent homicide.
Almost as a direct result of this case, the Roman Catholic Church now requires the presence of a doctor during any rite of exorcism.
