WHAT HAPPENED:
Today, written in a journal kept during the Lewis and Clark Expedition:
"Since our arrival at the Falls we have repeatedly heard a strange noise coming from the mountains in a direction a little to the north and west. It is heard at different periods of the day and night sometimes when the air is perfectly still and without a cloud, and consists of one stroke only, or six discharges in quick succession. It is loud, and resembles precisely the sound of a six pound piece of ordnance at the distance of three miles."

This day in 1947 is the last day of a three day window in which the
infamous "Roswell Incident" is suppose to have happened.

WHAT HAPPENED:
Considered one of the first "contactee" cases after World War II, Daniel
Fry was out for a walk when he encountered a football-shaped
UFO.
A voice from inside the craft invited him to come aboard and take a trip. While on board, he was shown images of the Earth's surface as it fell away. He also saw pictures of the craft traveling to New York and back to the desert.
