WHAT HAPPENED:
This day in 1947 is the second day of a three day window in which the
infamous "Roswell Incident" is suppose to have happened.
July 4th
(tomorrow) was the last day of this window.
The "Roswell Incident", of course, is when an alleged "flying saucer" is suppose to have crashed outside Roswell, New Mexico then recovered by the US military (along with some dead alien bodies and possibly at least one live one) and then covered up.
