LOCATION:
Los Angeles, CA   USA

WHAT HAPPENED:
1,430 rounds of ammunition were fired by anti-aircraft defenses at an unidentified aircraft sighted over Los Angeles.

Since this happened during World War II, it was dubbed the "Battle of Los Angeles". Three, non-military, personnel were reportedly killed during the barrage.

This incident was never fully explained.
