SOUTHBURY -- A body was discovered in a shallow grave near the Pomperaug River on Thursday.

Police on Friday were guarding a location on Berkshire Road near Pascoe Drive, a residential area, but refused to disclose any details about their investigation.

Police combed the area for evidence throughout much of the day and were out with a dog sniffing for evidence in the area until the evening. The scene scared neighbors, who aren't used to much police activity in the area, residents said.
